In this monthly post we ask our members to submit their favourite street photograph that they shot during the previous month. As well as submitting their image, they also let the viewers know as to why it was their particular favourite by including the reason(s) behind their choice. In addition to publishing the images in our blog, we also promote our member’s Favourite Street Photograph of the Month on our homepage slideshow.

Pink and fluffy by Phil Anker

    Pentax K-5 II s - 50-135mm F2.8 ED [IF] SDM - ƒ/5.6 - 50.0mm -1/250 - ISO 160 - Bath, UK.

My favourite shot of the month because of the light in this. Taking photographs with a strong and low winter sun is always enjoyable and offers a lot of opportunities.
I really like the way it falls in this and highlights the pink jacket and its wearer, while also giving strong shadows.

    Life Bouy by Draopsnai

    Panasonic DMC-TZ60 - ƒ/4.4 - 11.7 mm - 1/250 - ISO 640 - London, UK.

The reason I like this one is the simplicity of it, but the architectural lines make the pic seem busy.
It’s also one of my favourite parts of town along the river.

A Hint of a Glint by sasastro

    Pentax K-5 IIs - ƒ/5.6 - 53 mm - 1/1250 - ISO 400 - London, UK.

This group of people were watching the Green Man of Bankside and his costumed attendants parade over Millennium Bridge. The smile on the girls face as she filmed the procession is what caught my eye. I didn’t realise until I looked at the bigger picture when I got home that the reflection from the screen on her phone was hitting the corner of her mouth, thus lighting up that smile.

The Street Meet by Mister G.C.

    Ricoh GR - 18.3 mm f/2.8 - ƒ/7.1 - 105.0 mm - 1/320 - ISO 1600 - Nienburg, Germany.

As anyone following my street photography will know, that for about the past two months I have been suffering from ‘Photographer’s Block’. Not just with my street photography but also my stock photography took a hit too.

Towards the end of January on a short shopping trip to Nienburg I took my GR with me hoping to see if the urge would return. As soon as I got from the car park to the main shopping precinct I set up the camera and promptly snapped the two ladies, who were obviously friends, embracing each other as they met.

However as quick as I got my camera out of my pocket, it went straight back in again as I knew I wasn’t in the mood. It was a terrible feeling because I saw so many good street shot opportunities that day but I just couldn’t be bothered photographing them.

So needless to say this was my fave shot of the month….in fact it was my only shot of the month, but to overcome the photographer’s block I had to start somewhere, even if it was just that one shot. 5 days later I had a few good hours in Celle and managed to grab myself a nice bunch of keepers. Now looking forward to my next outing.
